EXTON, PA (May 10, 2011) – OmegaFlex, Inc., the preeminent international producer of quality engineered flexible metallic piping products, today announced the launch of CSST Facts (www.csstfacts.org), a website created to educate members of the plumbing, gas and HVAC communities—as well as homeowners—about the safety and effectiveness of corrugated stainless steel tubing (CSST).
The website contains a wealth of information about the safety and benefits of CSST, including enhanced protection against lightning. Users can learn more about the 20-year history of CSST safety in the United States, the latest advances in CSST technology and an in-depth comparison with other piping traditionally used for gas installations, including rigid black-iron pipe.

Other features include

  • Individual sections on seismic safety, electrical safety, lightning safety and fire safety
  • A comprehensive FAQ section
  • A list of national codes that CSST meets, including the National Fuel Gas Code, International Fuel Gas Code and Uniform Plumbing Code
  • In-depth comparison to rigid pipe

“We created this website to inform the industry about the many benefits of CSST, which has been used in more than five million homes for the past two decades,” said Kevin R. Hoben, president and chief executive officer of OmegaFlex, a CSST manufacturer. “It dispels many myths that have surfaced during the past five years. We hope that many people in the plumbing, gas and HVAC communities will take this opportunity to review the many, many benefits of this proven, effective technology.”

About CSST

CSST was initially developed during the early 1980s as a safe and effective gas distribution system that can withstand damage that can occur during earthquakes and other natural disasters. The comprehensive CSST system consists of flexible pipe between the building gas source and appliances. The flexibility of the tube allows it to be routed through the building in continuous lengths without the many joints required with rigid piping, and without the need for any special tools. Corrugated stainless steel tubing now commands slightly over one-half of the market for fuel gas piping in new and remodeled residential construction in the United States, and the use of rigid iron pipe, and to a lesser degree copper tube, accounts for the remainder of the market.
